Malasakit, a core Filipino value, is the embodiment of compassion and deserves national and global recognition,” opens DTI Design Center Executive Director Matute. “By recognizing designs and designers who put  ‘malasakit‘ (compassion) at the core of their design process, we ignite a movement towards design  solutions that are both aesthetically irresistible and powerfully transformative.”

Established in 2019 in collaboration with the Japan Institute of  Design Promotion (JDP) and ASEAN Japan Centre (AJC), Good Design Award Philippines is the national biennial design excellence recognition system. It has received a growing number of submissions since its launch, with this edition boasting a record-breaking number of 204 entries. The awards called for submissions in February and deliberations happened until June 1, with jurors selecting “exceptional designs that address real-world local and global needs with a strong focus on economic, environmental, and social sustainability. and elevate the quality of life.”

Winners were awarded today, June 29, 2024, at The Globe Tower, Fort Bonifacio Global City. A trophy based on an original artwork of the Design Center’s Inaugural Director and Philippine National Artist Arturo R. Luz was presented to the awardees along with the Good Design Award Philippines seal, a lasting symbol of excellence and quality guarantee. Winners (except White Citation awardee) also automatically qualify for the final round of Japan’s Good Design Award (G Mark) in August, a 70-year program from which Good Design Award Philippines drew inspiration. They also get featured at the official website gallery and in the biennial yearbook, along with a professional photo shoot and video production to showcase their story and product. Gold Award

“The Gold Award represents the highest level of design excellence in a category.  It is given to entries that exemplified the best application of disciplines from our criteria for judging. When given the Gold Award, the entry will no longer receive the Red Award since the former is higher in terms of honor. Should the jury decide that there’s no entry that merits the Gold Award, then there will be no Gold awardee.”

Gran Prix (Malasakit Award)

“The Gran Prix Malasakit award is the highest form of recognition from the Good Design Award Philippines. Receiving this award entails that the entry didn’t just exemplify good design, but it also has the most impact in addressing the UN Sustainability and Development Goals. There can only be one Gran Prix Malasakit awardee every recognition ceremony. If the jury deems no entry meets the criteria for this award, then there can be no Gran Prix Malasakit awardee.”
