ID 179 is the capstone course of the BS Interior Design program at the University of the Philippines Diliman. It requires every graduating batch to carry out a renovation project for a chosen beneficiary, applying their training in design while staying true to UP’s tradition of service.
Under this program, UP BSID 2026 presents KISLAP: Ang Kabanata ng Kabataan, wherein they transform a learning center within the UP Diliman campus. In previous years, different communities have benefited from this initiative. The Class of 2023 worked with the Kuya Center for Street Children in Cubao, Quezon City, while Batch 2025 brought life to the SVP Shelter for Girls.

Sparking hope with KISLAP
Project KISLAP aims to improve the experience of the core members of the Philippine Association of University Women-UP Chapter Child Study Center (PAUW-UP CSC). The chapter is dedicated to growing the humble and nurturing preschool located within the UP Diliman, serving around 370 students from ages 2 to 6 years old. The institution’s advocacy is nationalistic, inclusive, and environmentally conscious education, helping foster literacy, creativity, and social skills in each learner.
“We made it our commitment to contribute to their mission by redesigning selected learning areas at PAUW-UP CSC: the Admin Office and Reception, the Faculty and Storage Room, the Senior Nursery Classroom, the Care Corner, and the Library. We believe that transforming these spaces will provide a more holistic and pleasurable experience for both educators and students.”

Branding for the PAUW UP Child Study Center
Each spatial design was carried out to integrate the core values of PAUW, along with branding design done by the students. A mascot called “Pauwink” was also designed by the students, with painted versions of the character on select walls of the center.
“The goal is to design a conducive home for children to learn and grow alongside their peers. With elements chosen to provide a vibrant yet soothing environment, KISLAP aims to address the need for balance, movement, and unity in the spaces.”

PAUW Library
Their design strategy focuses on function and vibrancy: adding storage, filling the space with color, and painting murals to energize the environment. Shelves and storage boxes were added especially for the admin and faculty areas, while the murals were painted in spaces where students spent the most time in.

Lighting was also prioritized to bring more life to the center, with color incorporated through new fixtures, painted doors, and accents. PAUW thanked the students for their contribution, referring to them as an unforgettable part of the journey.
“Though this chapter comes to a close, the light we have created together will continue to shine brightly—illuminating new paths and inspiring future journeys. Your legacy will always be cherished within our community,” PAUW wrote.
PAUW Care Center
“UP BSID Class of 2026 would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the UP community, the PAUW Council, and the PAUW-UP CSC family, as well as the College of Home Economics, the ID 179 guest speakers, panelists, Interior Design Faculty, and all our sponsors and donors for the trust, guidance, and support that made this project possible.”

“As we close KISLAP: Ang Kabanata ng Kabataan, we celebrate a legacy of spaces built with heart and purpose,” the student designers share. “We move on to our next journey, carrying a lesson: we do not just design to beautify spaces; we design to uplift lives.” •
