Words The Kanto Team
Four Filipino projects who’s made the rounds of award shows internationally finally find acclaim on local shores. At 3 PM, February 22, 2023, The National Commission for Culture and the Arts bestowed the 15th Ani ng Dangal (Harvest of Honors) awards to four architectural and interior design projects, namely: The Penthouse by Atelier Almario, The Galleon Residences Showroom by Chat Fores Design Studio, Equilateral House by Jorge Yulo Architects and Associates, and finally, the Batangas Forest City by WTA Architecture and Design Studio. The latter two projects have also netted shortlist status at last year’s World Architecture Festival 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Interior designers Cynthia and Ivy Almario, Chat Fores, Architects Jorge Yulo, and William T. Ti, Jr. received their trophies in an in-person ceremony at the Malacañan Palace, the first such celebration in two years due to the present pandemic. The four architecture and allied arts awardees join 29 other exemplars in the fields of cinema, dance, drama, literature, music, visual arts, and broadcast arts.
The Ani ng Dangal awards is the culminating activity of the NCCA’s celebration of National Arts Month and is accorded to natural-born Filipino artists, be it solo or as a collective, for bringing home honor and pride for works highlighted in international award shows, programs or events. It was first instituted in 2009. Last year’s program saw 58 honorees in nine categories, with two in the realm of architecture: Noriel Estipular and WTA Architecture and Design Studio for Horizon Manila.
This year’s winners for the Architecture and Allied Arts category follow, alongside soundbites from the women and men of the hour! Congratulations to all our Ani ng Dangal Awardees! •
